BALDWINSVILLE - Anthony “Nino” Spoto, of Baldwinsville, died Friday, Dec. 23, 2005, at home, surrounded by his loving family after a courageous fight with cancer.
He was born and raised in Auburn. Nino retired from the UAW International Union as an international representative. He formerly worked at Rollway Bearing Company. Tony was a veteran of the Korean War, having served with the 7th Infantry Division.
He was on the board of the 32nd Infantry Regiment Association as well as a member of the VFW Post No. 153 and the CNY Korean War Veterans Association.
He was a member of the Italian Heritage Society of Auburn. Tony was an avid SU sports fan, having been a season ticketholder for football and basketball for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Arlene Sayles Spoto; their six children, Jim of Las Vegas, Nev., Tom (Tammy) of Pittsburgh, Pa., Ron (Mary) of Baldwinsville, Sandy Callahan of Syracuse, Bob (Marjorie) or St. Petersburg, Fla., and Dianne of New York City; their eight grandchildren: Jessica and Tommy Callahan, Tony, Nick, Mike and Becky Spoto, and Kristen and Reno McDonald; as well as his sister, Sarah Bruno of Auburn, and several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by two brothers, John “Fox” Spoto and Joseph Spoto, and two sisters, Mary Salva and Frances Price.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial to be celebrated Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Saint Francis Church. Entombment will be in Saint Joseph Mausoleum, Auburn.
Friends may call at the Cheche Funeral Home, 1778 Clark St., Auburn, on Tuesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m.
