SYRACUSE - Gerry McNamara knew he was going to have a big game before he stepped onto Jim Boeheim Court.
“It was one of those days that I was ready to play,” McNamara said Sunday after leading Syracuse to a 90-80 win over Davidson. “(Assistant) coach (Mike) Hopkins says he knows when I'm going to have a good game because he looks at my eyes, and he said to me before the game, 'You have those eyes today,' and I did.”
Did he ever. McNamara scored a season-high 38 points, hitting eight 3-pointers, and Demetris Nichols added four more 3s and a career-high 26 points as the Orange (8-2) won their fifth straight.
Syracuse was 14-for-26 on 3-pointers, one off the school record for made 3s set at West Virginia in 1997, and equaled its Carrier Dome mark set against Notre Dame in 2000.
Ian Johnson led the Wildcats (6-3) with 23 points, Brendan Winters and Matt McKillop each scored 15, and Boris Meno had 10.
