WEEDSPORT - The Weedsport varsity swim team won its season opener against Utica Proctor, 105-56. Luke Baker, Corey Hinman, Alison Saladin and Joshua Hughes took first place (1:57.35) in the 200 medley relay.
The two senior captains had great performances as Justin Friesen took first place in the 200 freestyle (1:58.12) and 100 freestyle (52.67) and Saladin was first in the 100 butterfly (1:09.63) and the 100 backstroke (1:09.91). In the 200 IM, Hinman placed first (2:31.33) and Hughes took first in the 50 freestyle (24.95).
Katie Scarbrough was first in diving (167.2) and Kyle Friesen placed first in the 100 breast stroke (1:28.24).
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Onondaga 53, Port Byron 51
PORT BYRON - Samantha Knapp led the Panthers with 16 points and Mallory Jakaub had 15 points for the Panthers.
Port Byron's Courtney Dare chipped in with 10 points while Misty Cook had eight points and 10 rebounds.
The Port Byron junior varsity team defeated Onondaga, 51-24, behind Shelby Gilbert's 16 points and Kaitlin Knapp's 12 points.
The Panthers (0-2, 0-1) play Tuesday at Pulaski.
Pulaski 65, Cato-Meridian 18
PULASKI - Lisa Cole and Whitney Blanchard scored five points each in the loss.
The Blue Devils (0-1) host Bishop Grimes on Thursday.
VOLLEYBALL
Cazenovia 3, Jordan-Elbridge 1
ELBRIDGE - Megan Caron had a good game for the Eagles (six kills, one ace, one block) in the 8-25, 10-25, 25-19, 10-25 loss.
Also playing well for Jordan-Elbridge were Colleen Manley (one kill, four aces, one assist), Amanda Poppe (one kill, one ace, three assists), Ann Filkins (three aces) and Lindsay Gonyea (three assists).
Pulaski 3, Cato-Meridian 1
CATO - Marianne Hirsch had four kills for the Blue Devils in the 21-25, 25-16, 25-19, 25-21 loss. Kaitlin Holt (two kills, two blocks), Grace Opderk (six aces, five kills, four blocks, one assist), Claire Stryker (seven aces, one kill, three blocks, 12 assists) also played well for Cato-Meridian.
The Blue Devils (0-1) travel to play Bishop Grimes on Thursday.
West Genessee 3, Auburn 2
AUBURN - Chelsea Berish had 29 assists for the Maroons as they were edged 26-28, 17-25, 25-7, 25-19, 27-25. Shannon McCormick (four aces, seven kills), Courtney Miskell (two aces, three assists, eight kills), Kathryn Freeman (two aces, two assists, seven kills, two blocks) also played well for Auburn. Praised for their defensive play were Michelle Grassi and McCormick.
The Maroons (0-1) travel to Utica next Tuesday.
