Baptist church hosts ‘Gospel Explosion'
The Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church is hosting its “Annual Gospel Explosion” at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26, in the church, 101 Fitch Ave., Auburn. The event will feature the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church Choir and male chorus and benefits the Marcus Coleman Scholarship Fund. Adults are $5, $3 for seniors, $2.50 for children 8 to 12, and under 8 free.

Home repairs given to homeowners

Episcopal Church of .SS. Peter and John is now accepting applications for free home repairs next summer. Low income, elderly, or disabled Auburn area homeowners are invited to complete an application for interior or exterior painting, step or porch repair, weatherization or mobile home underpinning. Labor and materials will be free to qualifying households. The repairs will be done July 30 through Aug. 6, 2006, by adult and teenage volunteers from group workcamps. Living manger held at Methodist church

The First United Methodist Church on 99 South St. (corner of South and Fitch Avenue) has a tradition to help people remember the meaning of Christmas. Several brave souls dress up in the costumes of Mary, Joseph and the shepherds. Whether rain, snow or sleet, they will huddle outside behind the church by a “manger” from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17, and Sunday, Dec. 18. Drive by and see the real Christmas story.

‘Handel's Messiah' performed by chorale

“Handel's Messiah” with Master Works Chorale will be performed at SS. Peter and John Episcopal Church, Genesee Street (across from the post office) at 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 4. Featured will be Julianna Sabol, soprano; Kelly Samarzea, contralto; Todd Geer, tenor, and Jimi James, bass. Accompaniment will be provided by a 15-piece orchestra.

Ticket prices are $12 for the general public, $10 for seniors and children 12 and under, with a family cap of $40. Tickets are available from chorale members or at the door. For more information, call 492-1003.

St. Joseph's School giving away raffle

Raffle tickets for $20 are now available by contacting the St. Joseph's School office at 253-8327 or Sue Flurschutz at 253-0182. They are $20 each or three for $50. A drawing will be held at the Christmas pageant on Dec. 15.

Retreat House offers marriage weekend

There will be a Marriage Encounter Weekend, from 8 p.m. Friday to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9 through 11. The weekend is for couples hoping to strengthen their marriage. Located at the Notre Dame Retreat House, 5151 Foster Road, Canandaigua. There is a $50 registration fee plus a free-will offering. Soup kitchen open every Saturday

SS. Peter and John Episcopal Church on Genesee Street (across from the post office) offers a soup and sandwich lunch to those in need from noon to 1 p.m. every Saturday. All are welcome.

Holy Family offers free clothing

The Holy Family Clothes Closet is open to the public from 6 to 8 p.m. every Thursday, and 10 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The Holy Family Clothes Closet is in the school building on North Street; side entrance.
