AUBURN - Paul L. Murphy, 88, of Grove Avenue, Auburn, died peacefully Friday, Nov. 11, 2005, at Auburn Memorial Hospital with his loving wife of 65 years by his side.
Mr. Murphy was born in Auburn on Nov. 17, 1916 and remained a life resident. He was the son of Francis and Elizabeth O'Brien Murphy. Paul was a graduate of Holy Family High School and served his country in the Pacific theater with the Army during World War II. He was employed as a machinist with ALCO for more than 20 years, before retiring in 1980. He was also employed for many years with the Citizen Advertiser.
Paul was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, where he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a member of W. Mynderse Rice Post 87 of the American Legion and a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 207.
Most admirably, he was a devoted husband and father. Paul is survived by his equally devoted wife, Margaret “Peg” Corcoran Murphy; his sons, Michael R. Murphy and his wife, Jane of Ripley, Robert J. Murphy and his wife, Nicole of Novi, Mich., Timothy J. Murphy and his wife Deidre of Auburn; a daughter, Maryellen Petrin and her husband, Pete of Hillsborough, N.C.; 12 grandchildren, Colin and Brendan Murphy, Kim Kokkotos, Sarah and Joanna Murphy, Luke, Josh, Ben and Lexi Murphy, Kerri Peter and Maggie Petrin; two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Mr. Murphy was predeceased by his son, Paul L. Murphy Jr., two brothers and two sisters.
Friends are invited to join the family for a Mass of Christian burial at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in St. Mary's Church. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Fleming. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at White Chapel Funeral Home, 197 South St., Auburn.
