TUCSON, Ariz. - Daniel Leschak, 84, of 5326 East Holmes, formerly of Auburn, died Sunday, Oct. 30, 2005.
Born in Auburn, he was the son of the late Paul and Nellie Dadow Leschak. He graduated from Auburn Senior High School in 1940 and was awarded a Cornell University scholarship, but accepted a tool maker apprenticeship with the International Harvester until the start of World War II. With the advent of World War II, he worked in Buffalo at Bell Aerosystems Co. In 1943, he enlisted as an aviation cadet and served as a B-17/B-29 navigator.

After his discharge from the Army Air Force in 1947, Fort Dix, N.J., he was able to pursue his Cornell University scholarship and Public Law 16, and was accepted in the first class in engineering physics. He was then transferred and majored in geology. He graduated from Cornell University in 1951 with a B.S. degree in biology. Shortly after his graduation, he accepted a position with the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., until 1961 when he moved to Arizona and worked for Bell Aerosystems, Lockheed and Hughes Aircraft.

Upon his retirement from Hughes in 1986, he enjoyed leisure time activities that included golfing, playing cards with veterans and associating with them at the local DAV, gardening and sporting events. He also enjoyed gambling and made several trips to Las Vegas for his further enjoyment.

Recently, he had to curtail many activities because of back and heart problems, and spent most of his time at the local DAV and watching sports events on television.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Loma Bradley Leschak; his sisters, Anne (John) Anderson, Marge (Paul) Flurschutz; five children, Kathy (Jerry) Hurt, Paul Leschak, Anne Hinton, Dan (Jenny) Leschak and Loma (Michael) Fenn; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and soon to join the family, a third grandson, Daniel Taylor Leschak. Also surviving is a niece, Susan Schafer, and three nephews, David Anderson, Dan Anderson and Mark Flurschutz.

Graveside services were held at East Lawn Cemetery in Tucson, on Nov. 3, 2005.
