The days are getting shorter and the weather is getting colder, soon old man winter will be upon us. Winter is my favorite time of year but I must admit I am quite concerned about the cost of fuel oil. I feel really bad for those folks on fixed incomes, just don't know how they will handle the added cost. They are now taking applications for HEAP. If you qualify, do not hesitate or the funds allocated for this program will be gone.
This past Saturday, was quite interesting in Fair Haven, if you happened to have been driving through town you may have seen a whole group (50+) witches parading the main street of town in the afternoon.

This was the third annual “Witches Fantasy Parade” where the witches parade around to local businesses and collect donations for the food pantry at the local church. Not only did they raise more than $300, they also had several donations of food. This will be much appreciated by the less fortunate.

As the day went on, the celebration of Halloween continued, in the evening there was pumpkin carving and later the haunting of Fair Haven. Everyone involved had a great time.

Don't forget, Nov. 11 is Veterans Day. Let us not forget to pay tribute to all our soldiers and veterans. They do so much for us and our country. When was the last time you thanked one. If you see a soldier or veteran take the time to shake their hand and thank them, they will appreciate it.

The Sterling Nature Center just picked the winners of its year-long photo contest, and the pictures are all on display and will remain on display for the following year at the nature center.

Also, The Sterling Nature Center recently planted a tree in honor of Ralph Standbrook, former mayor of Fair Haven and former Cayuga County legislator.

The Sterling Silver swingers will be taking their next trip on Nov. 10. They will be taking the holiday express to Rochester where they will visit the NY Museum of Transportation, tour and tasting at Casa Larga Vineyards, stop at Ridge Road Station, and dine at Cresent Beach. For more information call Peg Peters at 754-8123. It's filling up fast so get your reservations in now.

The Bayside Cruiser car club is hosting a spaghetti supper on Nov.13 at Granny and Honey's Restaurant on Main Street Fair Haven with all proceeds going to Fair Haven Community Church to purchase Christmas gifts for the less fortunate children in our local area.

The price is $6.50 for adults and $4 for 12 and under. This is a good cause, so why not come and join us.

Have a good month and a great holiday.
