A Cayuga County Jail inmate was arrested last week on a felony charge of assaulting a fellow inmate.
Marques Milligan, 22, of Syracuse, was arrested the same day as the 8 a.m. Oct. 26 assault that left another inmate with a head laceration.
Milligan is in the jail on a felony robbery charge. He allegedly held up the Kwik Fill/Red Apple Convenience store at 302 Genesee St. in October, police said.
Another inmate, Kevin J. Schwarting, 19, of Weedsport, was charged Nov. 1 with two counts of misdemeanor attempted criminal contempt for twice calling a woman who has an order of protection against him. Schwarting landed in jail after being arrested Oct. 16 for the charge of second-degree criminal contempt for an initial alleged violation of an order of protection.
Schwarting also is accused of two misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief and criminal tampering for flushing a blanket down his jail cell toilet Oct. 22.
Both face a jail hearing - in addition to their criminal charges - where a custody deputy determines the in-house penalty for their actions after conducting fact-finding through interviews with jail employees and the inmates. Penalties include placement in the jail's restrictive housing unit and the docking of $5 out of commissary accounts.
