ELMIRA - The fifth-seeded Southern Cayuga boys soccer team knocked off fourth-seed Elmira-Notre Dame 2-0 in a Section IV, Class C quarterfinal Saturday.
Casey Denman scored in the first half off of an assist by Chris Driscoll. Midway through the second half, Jonathan Hughes scored on a Chris Hilliard assist and Tyler Hilliard secured the shutout with 20 saves.
“Our team played outstanding on defense, they all just had a great game,” Chiefs coach Terry Underwood said.
The Chiefs are 11-3-3 with two of those losses coming to the Crusaders.
“We've improved a great deal this season,” Underwood said. “It is nice to see the third game come up positive.”
Southern Cayuga will face the winner of the Groton/Unadilla Valley in the semifinals Wednesday.

MOUNT MARKHAM - The Panthers fell to top-seeded Mount Markham as Bethany Cereo had 14 saves.

HORSEHEADS - Southern Cayuga finished fourth as Carol Ryerson, Laura Heslop, Bethany Ortquist and Nicole Reid set a school record by finishing third in the medley relay (2:03.41).
Bethany Ortquist also set school records in the 200 freestyle with a second-place finish (2:05.46) and the 100 freestyle with a third-place finish (57.25), which earned her IAC all-star honors.
Ryerson, Reid, Rebekah Ortquist and Bethany Ortquist also set a school record in the 400 freestyle relay in fifth place (4:04.97).
