Maroons run
past Corcoran
The Auburn boys' and girls' cross country teams defeated Corcoran on Wednesday.
In the girls' race, the Maroons owned each of the top-five spots in the 10-14 win.
Rosie Schiebel placed first (20:32), Amanda Kazanivsky took second (20:39), Elisia Townsend was third (21:03), Liz Mahoney finished fourth (21:43) and Liz Calandro took fifth (21:49).
Auburn participates in the Weedsport Invitational on Saturday.
For the boys, Scott Garrett finished in first place (18:07) for the Maroons, who won 8-14.
In second place was Chris Mason (18:08), Kes Peck took third (18:25), Tom Sproull was fifth (18:30) and Sean Wilson placed sixth (18:36).
The Maroons travel for the Weedsport Invitational on Saturday.
Groton edges Southern Cayuga
Mandi Meil had 10 points, three aces and three kills as Southern Cayuga fell to Groton 3-2 (27-25, 25-27, 15-25, 25-22, 13-25) in volleyball.
Also playing well for the Chiefs were Ashley Lehtonen (nine points, five aces, seven assists, two kills), Traci Hewitt (eight points, two aces, six kills) and Lacey Nesbit (one block, one kill).
Southern Cayuga finishes the season at 4-8.
Union Springs swept in volleyball
Kailie Carter had one ace in a 3-0 (25-17, 25-5, 25-12) loss in a volleyball game Thursday.
Amy Crowley (one ace), Amanda Feocco (one kill), Kalie Gagliano (one block) and Kendra Middleton (one kill) also played well for the Wolves.
The JV team finished the season at 11-5 as they lost 2-1.
The Wolves finish their season at 1-15.
Watkins Glen spikes Moravia
Watkins Glen swept Moravia 3-0 in a volleyball match Thursday.
Jaymi Kelley led the Blue Devils with five kills, two aces and one block in the 25-19, 25-19, 25-19 loss.
Also playing well for Moravia were Cayla Wade (four kills, six assists), Sarah Hargett (seven assists, one ace) and Angela Potter (three kills, two aces).
The Blue Devils are 5-9.
The JV team won 2-1 and is now 5-2.
Soap box derby meeting coming up
The 2006 edition of the Nucor Bar Mill Central New York All American Soap Box Derby will be held on may 27, 2006. Boys and girls ages 9-16 are eligible to participate.
There will be a Soap Box Derby informational meeting at 5 p.m. on Nov. 10 at the Auburn YMCA-WEIU for anyone that is interested in participating. The meeting is free and open to the public. Contact Steve Komanecky at 253-5304 for any other questions.
Champions for Life offering programs
Champions for Life Sports Center is now accepting registration for the fall programs at 453 Grant Avenue Rd.
They are offering the following classes: gymnastics (2-year-olds and up), cheerleading and tumbling (7-and-up), homeschool fitness program (3-and-up), karate (8-and-up), indoor tennis (4-and-up), and indoor soccer leagues (4-and-up).
