Howell's four goals lead Union Springs
Mike Howell led Union Springs with four goals in a 6-2 win over Newfield in a boys' soccer game at Newfield Tuesday.

Nate Gavitt had a goal and two assists while Ryan Lawson chipped in with another goal for the Wolves.

Union Springs' Nick Schooley, Zach Wertman and Matt Costello each had an assist while Bill Moore had 11 saves.

The Wolves (4-12) host Lansing today.

Hannibal defeats Skaneateles girls

Devan Kerr scored Skaneateles' only goal in a 2-1 loss to Hannibal in a girls' soccer game at Skaneateles on Tuesday.

Jenna Lotkowictz assisted on the play for the Lakers and Sara Karpin had four saves in goal.

The Lakers (4-5-2) host Oneida Friday.

Marathon wins over Moravia girls

Kalen Morey scored an unassisted goal for Moravia in a 2-1 loss to Marathon in a girls' soccer game Tuesday at Moravia.

Kathleen Youngs had an impressive game in goal, tallying 14 saves for the Blue Devils.

Moravia (2-13-1) plays Thursday at Southern Cayuga.

Cato-Meridian beats Auburn High

Hannah Stanistreet and Chelsea Gilbert scored both goals for Cato-Meridian in a 2-1 win over Auburn in a field hockey match at Auburn, Tuesday.

Desirae Gilbert and Whitney Blanchard recorded the assists for the Blue Devils.

Kristine Piwinski scored a goal on an assist from Kelly Blumrick and Janielle Viggiano for the Maroons.

Stacey Hennick had five saves for Auburn.

The Maroons (4-10) compete against Rome Free on Thursday.

Southern Cayuga girls third at meet

Katharine Miller finished second overall (20:30) for the Southern Springs girls' cross country team at the IAC Divisional meet at Groton on Tuesday. Southern Springs finished third out of six teams.

Brittany Wilbur finished 11th (23:11), Molly O'Hara was 13th (24:34), Rachel Humennyj was 22nd (26:48) and Alicia Slywka was 25 (30:08).

For the boys' cross country team, Sam Fessenden finished 15th (19:04) as Southern Springs finished fifth out of six teams.

Evan Bassett was 20th (19:54), Roger Olschewske was 22nd (20:12), Alex Schmitt finished 27th (20:48) and Corey Field was 30th (21:30).

Moravia competes at division meet

Jason Phillips finished fourth overall (17:51) for the Moravia boys' cross country team in an incomplete finish at the IAC Division II championship at Groton on Tuesday.

Larry Bentley finished 13th (18:50) and Pat Nevius was 28th (21:01) for the Blue Devils.

Ortquist sets school record in Chiefs' loss

Bethany Ortquist finished first and set a school record in the 100 backstroke (1:09.53) for the Southern Cayuga swim team in a 63-31 loss to Lansing at Southern Cayuga Tuesday.

Ortquist, Thea Rejman, Nicole Reid and Bethany Ortquist won the 400 freestyle relay (4:09.00) for Southern Cayuga.

Hannah Elwyn (1:10.62) and Shauna Burke (1:13.87) each had personal bests in the 100 freestyle.

The Chiefs (6-5) swim at Waverly next Tuesday.
