Dr. Robert M. Kalet, D.O.

PORT BYRON - Dr. Robert M. Kalet, 54, of 7334 Fuller Road, Port Byron, passed away Friday, Oct. 7, 2005, at Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
He was born in Auburn, the son of Leon and the late Lillian Walczyk Kalet and had been an area resident all his life. He was a member of the Auburn Alliance Church. Dr. Kalet graduated from the University of Rochester, University of Michigan and Michigan State University, where he earned his D. O. He later received additional training at Mt. Clemens, Mich. and CCOM in Chicago, Ill. He had been an emergency room physician at Auburn Memorial Hospital from 1980 until 1983 and then opened his private practice in Auburn. Dr. Robert had the vision for the renovation of the former Central High School as a medical center for Auburn and was instrumental in seeing it to its completion. He was the medical director at Mercy Health & Rehabilitation Center. He served as the physician for Port Byron and Union Springs schools and also was plant physician for NUCOR Steel Company. Dr. Kalet had served Cayuga County as its coroner since 2000. He had a great love for sports, traveling and being a gentlemen farmer.

In addition to his father, Leon, he is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, the former Nancy Stillwell of Port Byron; three sons, Adam, Brian and Chad; a brother, David and his wife, Jan of Ill.; a nephew; very special aunts and numerous close friends.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Auburn Alliance Church, 630 N. Seward Ave. with the Rev. David Richter, pastor, officiating. Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. today and 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Pettigrass Funeral Home, 196 Genesee St., Auburn. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dr. Kalet's memory to the Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross, designated for local disasters.

He was a kind and gentle man and will be missed.
