The Cayuga County Sheriff's Office is seeking a man who passed a counterfeit $50 bill at the Kwik Fill convenience store in the village of Moravia.
The man entered the Kwik Fill at 10 p.m. Saturday and purchased a pack of cigarettes with the bill, which turned out to be counterfeit. The suspect is described as a white male with dark-colored hair. He is between 5 feet 4 inches and 5 feet 7 inches tall with a heavy build.
He was driving a four-door, dark-colored older vehicle, possibly a Buick.
"Here was another case where a bill was obviously made on a home PC," Sheriff Rob Outhouse said. "The quality certainly is not there for a regular bill."
Store clerks should carefully check larger denomination bills, Outhouse said, and keep suspicious bills while they call the police.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Steve Smith at 253-4869.
