Auburn girls shut down Utica Proctor

AUBURN - Flannery Nangle torched the net with two goals, leading the Auburn girls' soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Utica Proctor on Friday.
The win qualifies the Maroons for sectionals.

Jordan Pelc and Melissa Hrynyk both chipped in with a goal apiece while Nicole Szczepanski and Laura Taylor each recorded two assists.

Auburn (7-2) travels to Corcoran on Tuesday.

Elmira-Notre Dame 4, Southern Cayuga 1

SOUTHERN CAYUGA - Lianna May scored the Chiefs' only goal early in the first half. Miles Morgan had 10 saves in the game. The Chiefs had eight shots on goal and three corner kicks in the loss.

Southern Cayuga (1-6-1) will host Union Springs today.

SWIMMING

Auburn 93, Utica Proctor 76

AUBURN - In the 500 freestyle, Ashley King swam a personal best (6:11.04), which qualified her for sectionals in the win against Utica Proctor.

Allison White, Sarah Blair, Laura Iwanicki, and King placed first (2:13.12) in the 200 medley relay.

Corinne Murray took first (2:26.79) in the 200 freestyle and Kate Dellonte placed first (2:38.32) in the 200 IM. Janna Fiermonte took first (1:15.61) in the 100 butterfly, Kelsey Roe was first (1:02.05) in the 100 freestyle, and Morgan Piedmonte placed first in the 500 freestyle (6:07.00).

Kristin Cunningham took first (1:12.78) in the 100 backstroke and Robyn Clary finished first in the 100 breast stroke (1:32.73).

The Maroons (4-0) host Henninger on Wednesday.

VOLLEYBALL

Southern Cayuga 3, Union Springs 0

SOUTHERN CAYUGA - The Chiefs shut out the Wolves 25-15, 25-18, and 25-21.

Southern Cayuga setters Ashley Lehtonen and Julie Hewitt combined for six assists, six kills, three aces and 11 points.

Also playing well for the Wolves were Mandi Meil (five aces, two kills, 11 points) and Carissa Wheeler (four kills, three points, one block).

Kali Gagliano (three kills, three aces), Jessica Blank (one ace, one block, four assists), Amanda Feocco (one kill, two aces, one block), and Kendra Middleton (four aces) played well for Union Springs.

Southern Cayuga (3-3) travels to Watkins Glen on Wednesday.

Union Springs (1-6) plays in the Watkins Glen tournament today.
