Local golfer slips out of first

Entering the third round of the Nationwide Tour's Mark Christopher Charity Classic on Saturday, Skaneateles native Tom Scherrer was tied for the lead at 8 under par. But a double bogey on the 18th hole at the Empire Lakes Golf Club in Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., put him at 2 over par for the day and 6 under par overall He enters Sunday's final round tied for 16th.

Scherrer eagled the 18th hole on Thursday in a 6-under-par round of 65 to open the tournament. He birdied the 18th the following day to finish 2 under par and hold a share of the lead.
