AUBURN - A 25-year-old man was sentenced to one year in Cayuga County Jail Monday for violating an Auburn City Court order of protection, and could face prison time upon his release from jail after being arrested Saturday on drug charges while his sentencing was being delayed.
John J. Hughes, of 300 Clark St., Auburn, violated a court order Nov. 23 by visiting the mother of his child where she worked at J.C. Penney in the Fingerlakes Mall.
Hughes was set to be sentenced last Friday, but his attorney, Carl DePalma, asked that his sentencing be delayed until Monday so that he could have time to review the pre-sentence investigation.
On Saturday, Hughes was arrested by Auburn police for a felony charge of criminal possession of narcotics - cocaine - with intent to sell.
Hughes could face prison time if convicted on the drug charges, said Chief Assistant District Attorney Jon Budelmann.
Also in court:
- Richard A. McGrail Jr., 53, 266 Pecker Hill Road, Locke, pleaded not guilty to first-degree criminal sex act and first-degree sexual abuse charges for alleged contact with an 8-year-old girl.
- Inthanousan S. Borihane, 26, previously of 53 Cherry St., pleaded not guilty to a first-degree attempt to escape charge.
On July 4, Borihane climbed the fence in the recreation yard at the Cayuga County Jail and got on the roof of the public safety building.
He was being held awaiting sentencing to a federal facility on a bank robbery conviction.
- Kevin J. Ferrin, 54, 1367 Howland Island Road, Mentz, was denied bail and remanded to Cayuga County Jail upon his release from prison on Oct. 15.
Last fall, Ferrin was arrested on second-degree attempted burglary charges while on parole. Ferrin was serving prison time for prior robbery convictions. Upon his release from prison, he will be held at the county jail pending the resolution of his most current charges.
