Dennis draws near to century mark
Port Byron native Sophie Dennis had one assist on a Brooke Atwood goal in the William Smith field hockey team's 3-0 victory over Oswego State on Saturday.
Dennis moved within two points of becoming the 10th Heron to score 100 career points.
Maggie Dolan scored the Herons' other two goals.
The Herons improve to
3-1, while the Lakers fall to 0-3.
Moravia blanks Watkins Glen
After a scoreless first half, Greg Langtry found Zach Hargett for an 11-yard touchdown pass to put the Blue Devils on top 6-0 late in the third quarter on Saturday. Langtry tossed another scoring pass to Erik Conner in the final quarter to give Moravia a 14-0 win after a successful conversion from Langtry to Tim Nervina.
Langtry finished the game 12-for-23 and 179 yards passing. Hargett had 12 rushes for 78 yards, and Brandon Carr caught five passes for 100 yards.
Tim Nervina led the defense with 13 tackles, Michael Marr had 10 and Hargett had eight. Carr, Langtry and Conner each had an interception.
Joe Corson played well at left tackle.
Moravia takes on Spencer-Van Etten on Friday, but the Blue Devils will be without Chris Francis, after he suffered what appears to be a season-ending leg injury.
J-E girls defeat field at Oswego Invite
The Jordan-Elbridge girls' cross country had five runner among the top-nine finishers to win the Oswego Invitational Saturday.
Nicole Darling led the Eagles with a second-place finish (15:28).
Cate White took third (16:02), Libby Forward was seventh (16:37), Lindsay Hollis finished eighth (16:38) and Kim Armani crossed the line in ninth (16:42). Katie Darling took 41st (19:45).

Moravia's field hockey team beat Delhi 2-1 on Saturday to take third place in the Sherburne-Earlville Tournament.
The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead into halftime after Jennifer Guido scored at 21:04 of the first half. Emily Lockett has the assist.
Brittany Mott made it 2-0 after banging home a rebound from 15 yards out off a penalty corner.
The Blue Devils held on for the win after allowing Delhi's only goal at 11:56 of the second half.
Vanessa Lloyd made six saves.
Moravia (1-2) takes on Spencer-Van Etten on Wednesday.
AHS cross country to hold breakfast
A pancake breakfast to benefit the Auburn High School boys and girls cross country team will be held at the Knights of Columbus on 47 Market St.
The breakfast is from 8-11:30 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18. The cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children, under 5 free.
The all-you-can-eat breakfast includes juice, coffee, sausage, eggs, french toast and pancakes.
