Hits and Misses

HIT: The Auburn Doubledays have won yet another Pinckney Division championship this year. The team clinched the title with a victory Friday night.
Special accolades certainly must go to the Doubledays#' manager, Dennis Holmberg. Year after year, Holmberg produces successful teams for Auburn. Such a track record in the minor leagues is nothing short of remarkable, because the team's personnel changes radically year after year. That means the manager must mold a new group of players into a cohesive unit on an annual basis - there is little momentum from the year before.

Holmberg is simply one of the best minor-league managers there is.

MISS: The start of the Greg Robinson era at Syracuse University was not pretty.

The Orange dropped its first football game under Robinson#'s direction, and the performance was lackluster at best. The one bright spot during the otherwise disastrous day at the dome on Sunday was the play of the Syracuse defense.

Here#'s hoping they can build on that positive development and start scoring some points. If they don#'t, it will be a long season on the SU hill.

HIT: We commend the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center for its crow exhibit.

The Auburn museum has put together an impressive display of artwork devoted to the pesky bird this city knows far too much about.

Crow lovers and haters alike should come to the exhibit to see all of the perspectives people can have on these birds.

HIT: Centro#'s shuttle service from Cayuga County locations to the New York State Fair has always been popular, but this year ridership has been particularly high. The Fingerlakes Mall parking lot, the primary pickup/dropoff location for the Auburn area, was a testament to that over the past week and a half.

A big reason for the spike in interest has to be the spike in gasoline prices.

Public transportation has always been a great way to combat fuel consumption, and Centro is certainly doing its part.
