SYRACUSE - A U.S. bankruptcy judge position has been created to help handle a recent spike in bankruptcy filings in the Northern District of New York.
The position is one of 28 new judgeships approved by Congress as part of the bankruptcy law that takes effect Oct. 17. The new law, which would make filing for bankruptcy more difficult, likely caused a spike in filings across the country because people want to take advantage of the consumer-friendly provisions of the current law, according to bankruptcy lawyers.
