Hurricane aid at Falcon Park tonight

The Auburn Doubledays, in cooperation with the American Red Cross will be hosting a relief fund tonight at Falcon Park to aid victims of Hurricane Katrina.

Cash or check is acceptable. Gates open at 6 p.m., and collections will be taken inside the front gates. First pitch is at 7 p.m., and fireworks will follow the game.

NASCAR tickets

in Weedsport

The Weedsport Big M is offering a chance for visitors to win a pair of tickets to the Dickies 500 race at Texas Motor Speedway Nov. 3 through Nov. 6.

The package includes race tickets, airfare, and hotel room. The drawing will be on Saturday Sept. 17.

Moravia, Union Springs spiked

After the Moravia girls' volleyball team opened with a first-game win, Newfield stormed back to take the next three to defeat the Blue Devils in four games Thursday.

Angela Potter led the Blue Devils' attack with six kills. Leah Hilliard added three aces, two kills and an assist, and Amanda Maitland had four assists and a block.

Courtney Schmeltz led the Trojans with five aces, 11 service points, four kills and 10 assists. Samantha Baker chipped in with four aces and eight assists, and Kim Owings had five kills, five digs and a block. Megan Owens scored seven service points and added three kills and two blocks, and Michelle Jennings had 10 service points and three aces.

The Blue Devils fall to 0-1, and the Trojans are 1-0.

Kali Gagliano had four aces and three kills as the Union Springs volleyball team was defeated by Odessa-Montour, 3-1.

The Wolves lost 25-18, 25-15, 21-25 and 25-11.

Kailie Carter added six aces and one kill, and Kendra Middleton pitched in with six kills and two aces.

Union Springs (0-1) travels to Newfield on Tuesday.

Cayuga men's soccer beats Cobleskill

Cayuga Community College's men's soccer team topped Cobleskill 2-1 in overtime Thursday.

Dean Stanic and Jeff Barton had a goal apiece, and Chris Flanagan had a pair of assists. Keeper Greg Arnold made five stops.

The Spartans (2-0-1) play Saturday at Clinton.

Wells field hockey falls in opener

The Wells field hockey team dropped its season opener, an 8-0 decision to Ramapo on Thursday.

Taneeka Smith had 23 saves in goal.

Wells is 0-0 in conference play (AWCC) and 0-1 overall.

Union Springs wins in girls' soccer

The Union Springs girls' soccer team improved to 2-0 this season with a 2-1 victory over Newfield on Thursday.

Michaela Hares scored the game-winner with an assist from Annie O'Hara. Eighth-grader Amanda Cuff scored first for the Wolves on an assist from Katie Collier.

Deven Gary stopped eight shots, including a late save to preserve the win.
