JAMESTOWN - Cory Patton hit his first of two home runs in an eight-run second inning to lift the Auburn Doubledays to a 14-1 victory in the opener of a doubleheader against the Jamestown Jammers Thursday.
In the nightcap, Jacob Butler, Brian Pettway and Nick Thomas each went yard to lift Auburn to a 6-2 win.

Meanwhile, the Mahoning Valley Scrappers were swept by the Batavia Muckdogs in a doubleheader to give the Doubledays a 7.5-game lead in the Pinckney Division with a maximum of eight regular-season games remaining.

Patton led off the second inning of the first game with a round-tripper, and the next batter, Joey Metropoulos, sailed one over the center-field wall. In all, Auburn had seven hits in the inning and were helped by two errors.

Patton hit his second homer of the game in the fourth - a two-run blast to go up 10-0. He finished the game 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Brian Bormaster went 3-for-3.

Kristian Bell (5-4) picked up the win in five innings with four strikeouts. He allowed one run.

In the second game, Auburn was out-hit 7-4, but clutch hitting - the Doubledays left only one runner on base in the game - and a combination of walks and errors allowed the Doubledays to outscore their hosts.

Robert Ray (4-2) struck out five in five shutout innings for the win.
