Orchard Street to get new flowerpots
Flower pots to be placed in the Orchard Street neighborhood have arrived, and members of the neighborhood association will be painting the nine pots at their next meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30.
The meetings are held at 36 Orchard St. President Arlene Ryan asks that as many residents from the area as possible attend. Those interested in the project are welcome as well. For more information, contact Arlene Ryan at 252-4434.
Police offer free child seat checks
According to national studies, at least eight out of every 10 child safety seats are improperly used or installed. To help local residents understand how to properly use a child safety seat, the New York State Police are offering free seat checks by certified child passenger safety technicians.
Residents living in the Auburn/Moravia area should call trooper Aileen Sherman or trooper Donald Langtry at 255-2766, to set up an appointment to have a seat installed or inspected.
Meetings to address deer disease
The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation will be holding a series of statewide meetings regarding the issue of chronic wasting disease in wild and captive white-tailed deer in the state. There have been no reports of wasting disease in the wild deer population in Cayuga County, but the DEC did report earlier in the year that the disease was found in two captive white-tailed deer herds in Oneida County. The Department of Agriculture and Markets found a total of five positive results in the two herds.
Local meetings will be held in Canandaigua at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 19 at the Ontario County Safety and Training Facility, 2914 County Road 48 in Canandaigua. There will also be a meeting in Syracuse at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 22, at the State Fairgrounds Art and Home Center, Martha Eddy Room, 581 State Fair Blvd. For more information, call Maureen Wren at (518) 402-8000.
