After The Citizen Downtown Auburn Mile, Spirits Tavern and Cafe plans to keep the fitness festivity going with a live concert from The Disclaimers, a local Auburn classic rock and jazz band.
"There is a lot of families and local people involved in this event, and we want to give them something to keep the party going," said John Stevens, the bar's owner.
Auburn residents Al Anderson, Jim Andrews and George VanDerveer created The Disclaimers a little over a year ago. The three members have found a way to combine their love for classic rock, R&B and jazz in a unique set that covers everything from Buddy Guy and BB King to ZZ Top. All three members of The Disclaimers have been in various bands that have played throughout the area.
"Our meeting was a casual one," said Anderson, one of the band's bass guitar players. "But we found that we had music in common and things have been working out well."
Andrews also plays the bass and VanDerverr will be on the drums.
The party does not end with The Disclaimers. When their set is done, the Joe Whiting Band will take over.
In addition to celebrating The Citizen Downtown Mile, the Joe Whiting Band will also be kicking off the release of their new CD. The band will begin playing at 9 p.m.
Whiting is a jazz musician from Skaneateles. Other band members include Frank DeFonda on drums, Brian Barrigar on bass and Terry Quill on guitar.
Spirits will also be serving hamburgers, hot dogs and pizza.
"We are trying to tie everything into The Citizen Downtown Mile," Stevens said. "We just want to give people a little more to do."
