Moravia board to discuss tax reforms

The Moravia Central School District Board of Education will be meeting in the board conference room at 7 tonight.
The board is scheduled to discuss the cafeteria income eligibility guidelines and the school's tax reforms. The board will also consider the appointment of several teacher's aides and assistants.

Unitarian church to host gay pride picnic

The Unitarian Universalist Church, 607 N. Seward St., will host the Second Annual Auburn Gay Pride Picnic from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday.

Admission to the picnic is $3 for adults and free for children age 12 and younger.

The picnic will feature female impersonators Madison DeVine and Melody Rose, and will feature a documentary, "High Heels and Duct Tape: Confessions of a Teenage Drag Queen," presented by students at Cayuga Community College.

All money raised will be put into the pride fund.

Red Cross to offer CPR training

The Cayuga County Chapter of the American Red Cross is hosting "CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer" 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at its Genesee Street office.

The course, which is open to the public, will teach skills for responding to breathing and cardiac emergencies.

Participants will learn about the use of automated external defibrillation and bag-valve masks, among other procedures.

The $70 cost includes a participant manual and certification in infant, child and adult CPR and AED training. Call 252-9596 or e-mail chapter@ccredcross.org to sign up.

Nature center

features 'owl prowl'

The Cornell Cooperative Extension will be hosting an owl prowl program at the Sterling Nature Center.

Americorp environmental educator Renee Jensen will begin the program with an indoor presentation, which will familiarize participants with owl adaptations, habitat and calls.

The discussion will also cover which owls can be found in New York state. Following the presentation, Jensen will lead a walk through the woods in search of owls.

The program will be held from 8 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31. Admission is free. For more information, contact Jensen at 255-1183.
