Tour planned for women in business
The Women in Business Network organization, part of the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County, will host a tour of New Hope Mills Manufacturing & Retail Store Wednesday.
The organization's monthly programs provide participants with an opportunity to network with other area businesswomen.
The tour will run from 8 to 9:30 a.m.

Butterfly garden party held in Owasco
Owasco Elementary School will host a "Garden Party" at their Butterfly Conservation Garden at 6 p.m. Wednesday. Children, their families and interested residents are invited to attend the event hosted by the Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County and its master gardeners.
Participants will learn how to create similar gardens in their backyards and search for butterflies and other garden inhabitants.
Everyone will also participate in hands-on maintenance of the Butterfly Conservation Garden.

Unemployment rate down in July
Unemployment in Cayuga County stayed below the state and national averages last month, according to the state Department of Labor.
The state's most recent figures show Cayuga County's seasonally unadjusted unemployment rate in July was 4.5 percent, slightly higher than the 4.3 percent recorded for June but below the 4.9 percent rate posted for July 2004.
Statewide and nationwide, the July unemployment rate was 5.2 percent.
Elevator constructors seek apprentices
The International Union of Elevator Constructors Local 62 will conduct recruitment on Aug. 30 for 25 elevator/escalator constructor and modernizer apprentices.
Applications can be obtained at the 615 W. Genesee St. office in Syracuse. The office will be open from 8 a.m. to noon and from 1 to 6 p.m. on Aug. 30.
Applicants must be 18 or older, have a high school or general equivalency diploma, live within the local's geographic jurisdiction, and be physically able to do work that includes lifting, climbing and working from heights.
Applicants are also required to take a written examination, which includes a $10 fee, have an oral interview and pass a pre-employee drug test.

Baseball fans asked to donate food items
State Sen. Mike Nozzolio is asking all those who attend "Mike Nozzolio Night" at Falcon Park on Sunday, Sept. 4 to bring an item to donate to the Food Providers Network of Cayuga County.
"There is no better way to help our local food pantries replenish much needed supplies than with an all-American baseball game," Nozzolio said in a press release.
According to the Food Providers Network, donations may include non-perishable canned goods, paper products, soap, shampoo, baby food or diapers.
The donations will replenish supplies among six food pantries in the Auburn area.
The game is scheduled to begin at 6:05 p.m. The Doubledays will be playing against the Mahoning Valley Scrappers.
