Keep an eye out, and up.
A peregrine falcon has been found in Auburn, and wildlife advocates are asking for help.
Steve Johnson, director of Information Technologies for Cayuga County, reported that a female falcon was found near the Auburn Family Restaurant downtown with a severed wing and was taken to the home of wildlife rehabilitator Trudy Gaertner. Gaertner was trying to feed the animal with raw chicken and Pedialite Monday to help get its strength back.
The falcon will then be transported to Cornell University for further treatment.
However, Gaertner is concerned that the falcon may have left behind a nest full of chicks following the injury. It is hoped that the nest may be found, and the chicks can receive similar care until the mother is returned, or they can survive on their own.
Male peregrine falcons help feed the chicks normally, but a male has not been seen in the area.
Anyone with information is asked to call Gaertner at 246-3008.
