The city of Auburn is no longer using unfiltered water in its system, but the boil water notice for the city and the surrounding towns remained in effect Monday.
The city has two of the rapid sand filters functioning and the remaining filter is being repaired.
There was unfiltered water introduced into the system earlier this weekend, which is why the boil water order is still necessary for residents who receive public water from Auburn, Throop, Aurelius, Sennett, Brutus, Weedsport and Port Byron. Officials want to be certain all unfiltered water has cycled through and out of the system before clearing water use for residents.
Montezuma will be placed on a boil water order at noon today, as it will be necessary to come off its storage tank and start using the city of Auburn's water.
The city is requesting consumers be conscientious about limiting consumption, but extreme measures for conservation are not necessary.
