The Cayuga County Sportsmen Club is having trap, skeet, and sporting clay shooting every Sunday morning.

The Falcon Sportsmen Club is holding trap shooting Monday nights and Tuesday mornings.

The Weedsport Rod & Gun Club is featuring trap shooting every Saturday morning.

Gun hunter safety class to be offered

There is a New York Gun Hunter Safety Class that will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 21, at Falcon Sportsmen Club. Call 252-1321 for information and to register.

This is the new Internet, Homestudy, Computer-Based training class. Students are required to study and take quizzes via the Internet or by instructor supplied CD before attending the actual class. This pre-class study takes about 10 to 12 hours. The class study program can be found at www.ihea.com

NASCAR star to make appearance in Auburn

NASCAR driver Martin Truex, Jr., the 2004 NASCAR Busch Series Champion, will be at Bass Pro Shops Sportsman's Center from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12.

He will sign autographs on a first come-first serve basis.

The No. 8 Bass Pro Shops car will be at the store from Aug. 12 to 14. More information available at www.basspro.com or call 258-2700.

Hunting Classic

coming in two weeks

Bass Pro Shops will host its Fall Hunting Classic during Aug. 20 to 28 with the event weekend slated for Friday, Aug. 26 to 28.

To kick off the event weekend, Charles Alsheimer, one of North America#'s foremost experts on whitetail deer will be at the store on Thursday, Aug. 25 and Friday, Aug. 26 with two one-hour seminars each night.

The seminars scheduled are 6 p.m. Thursday night. Whitetail: Rites of Autumn (multi-media). Seven p.m.: Hunting the Whitetail Rut. Six p.m. Friday: Whitetail: Behavior Through the Season (multi- media). Seven p.m.: Quality Deer Management: The Basics and Beyond.

The seminars are free and will be held upstairs in the old mall roller rink area. Access is next to pizza place in mall food court area.
