YMCA to host
off-ice hockey camp

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU is offering an off-ice hockey camp from Aug. 8 to 12 at the YMCA. Mike Lowe leads the camp open to boys and girls ages 8 to 15. Organized street hockey games, knee-hockey tournaments and in-line games make up an action-packed week of hockey. A pizza party will be held on the last day.

The cost is $25 for YMCA members and $50 for the general public. Fee includes a free T-shirt.

Champions for Life offering rec camps

The Champions for Life Sports Center is offering recreational day camps for boys and girls ages 6 and up. Weekly camps will be held from 9 a.m to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday through Aug. 26.

The camps will include a full day of gymnastics, soccer, trampoline, tennis, dance, waterslide, volleyball, basketball and a weekly field trip to a private park with hiking, boating and fishing.

Moravia tennis clinic coming up

There will be a Moravia tennis clinic from 6 to 9 p.m. Aug. 15 and 16.

The camp is free for all ages and campers will be assisted by SUNY Cortland tennis coach, Pete Cahill. For sign-up information, call 497-2045.

Auburn girls hoops camp next week

The Maroons girls basketball camp is open to girls in the Auburn School District in grades 3-12 from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. on Aug. 8-11 at Seward Elementary School.

The cost is $35 and all campers receive a Maroons T-shirt. For questions, or to get a registration form, contact Gary Grinnell at 255-1048.

Citizen Downtown Mile Aug. 26

The 23rd Annual Citizen Downtown Mile will be run at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26. Registration is $10, $12 on day of race. YMCA/WEIU Family

Members/parent and child can register for half price (Y-members must show membership cards). Age categories range from 6 and under to 70 and up.

The race begins at the corner of Washington and Genesee Streets. and ends at Dill Street. in front of The Citizen. T-shirts are guaranteed for the first 200 registered by Aug. 19.

Beverages will be available for all participants following the race. There will be award shirts and trophies for the first male and female finishers.

AHS cheerleading tryouts Aug. 15

Cheerleading tryouts for Auburn High School students in grades 9-12 will be held at 6 p.m. on Aug. 15 in the Auburn High gymnasium.

Chamber golf

The Cayuga County Chamber of Commerce is holding its 12th Annual Chamber Cup Tournament on Monday, Aug. 8 at Highland Park Golf Club.
