AUBURN - Mr. John D. "Jack" O'Connell, 76, of 7884 Grant Ave., Auburn, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2005, at University Hospital, Syracuse.
A native and lifelong resident of Sennett, he retired from Alco after 50 years of employment. He formerly owned and operated O'Connell's Corner Service Station, and along with his sons, owned and operated O'Connell Farms. He was born on June 26, 1929, the son of John D. and Blanche Miller O'Connell. Jack was a graduate of Elbridge High School and an Army veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.
Surviving is his loving wife of 51 years, Lettie Housel O'Connell, Sennett; and their five children, John (Jackie) O'Connell, Craig (Donna) O'Connell, Timothy (Christine) O'Connell, Michael (Kim) O'Connell, and Colleen (Dwayne) Jones, all of Sennett; four granddaughters, Erin and Danielle O'Connell, Kaitlyn O'Connell, Elizabeth Jones; one grandson, Ryan O'Connell; two step-grandchildren, Jennifer and Dennis Doman; two sisters-in-law, Mary Housel and Joanne O'Connell; many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Eugene O'Connell; his sister, Ruth McLane; and granddaughter, Mallory O'Connell.
Private services will be held at the convenience of the family. There are no calling hours.
Memorial contributions may be made to either the Cayuga County Chapter of the American Heart Association, the Cayuga County Chapter of the Kidney Foundation, or the Auburn Nursing Home Patients Fund.
Arrangements are by Farrell's Funeral Service Inc., 84 South St., Auburn.
"Jack" was known as a man who worked hard his entire life, and with his rough exterior, to those who knew and loved him, we were blessed to see his kind and gentle side. His strength and support will be greatly missed. Dad, we love you.
