County sees increase in home sales price
According to preliminary data collected by the New York State Association of Realtors, Cayuga County recorded the largest percentage increase in median sales price for existing single-family homes from May 2005 to June 2005.
The 35.6 percent increase reflects the jump from May ($68,000) to June ($92,200).
The median sales price for homes in June 2004 was $119,500.
Fifty existing single-family homes were sold in May; 68 were sold in June.
The data also shows a statewide median selling price increase of nearly 15 percent in June 2005 compared to the same period last year.
Fifteen attend
sheriffs' camp
Fifteen Cayuga County children are attending the 29th year of the New York State Sheriffs' Association Institute's summer camp this week.
The summer camp is located in Yates County on Keuka Lake.
More than 800 children from across the state attend the camp through contributions from honorary Sheriffs' Association membership drives.
The local campers are: Islam Alim, of Auburn; Timothy Baker, of Cato; Fabricano Canales, of Port Byron; Anthony DiAngelo, of Scipio Center; Harold Dymock, of Union Springs; Shannon Hale, of Moravia; Caitlin Jones, of Weedsport; Keith Lull, formerly of Moravia; Gregory Mansell, of Auburn; Ellen Merriam, of Cato; Nicole Middlesworth, of Scipio Center; Michael Mitchell, of Auburn; Leanne Nares, of Locke; Cody Rathbun, of Port Byron; and Christopher Smith, of Auburn.
County gets grant for record-keeping
The Cayuga County recording office has received a $38,782 grant award from the Local Government Records Management Improvement Fund.
County clerk Sue Dwyer, who applied for the grant with records retention coordinator Bill Hulik, said that the grant money would be used to back-scan land records and help the center move toward a paperless office.
"We'd like all new and old public records to be available at your fingertips," Dwyer said.
