POPLAR RIDGE - John and Susan Gloss of King Ferry looked as though they were having just as much fun as the children.
The couple sang along to songs like "I Wish I Were a Dinosaur," and even pinched their noses and made funny sounds during a song about doing just such things during a concert given by Bart and Kevin at the Friends Meeting House in Poplar Ridge Thursday.
The Glosses, along with their daughters, Betsy, 3, and Julia, 1, were enjoying the final concert hosted by the Hazard Library as part of New York state's Tune in @ Your Library summer reading program.
Throughout the summer, the library presented a vast array of musical performances by local and regional musicians.
"I took the day off from work to attend today's performance with my daughters," John said. "I try to attend at least one each year."
Bart Dentino and Kevin Huber, who make up the group Bart and Kevin, travel the country visiting more than 250 schools and children's concerts annually with their musical comedy show.
"Our performance is family oriented," Dentino said. "We encourage parents to interact with their children during the show."
Humor was encouraged throughout the performance.
As they sang the lyrics to the song "Train, Train Rolling Down the Track," families were asked to sing along. Yet when it came to singing about the caboose at the back of the train, the children and parents replaced the word "caboose" with "goose."
Being asked to wrap their arms around themselves as if hugging themselves, both parents and children alike found it silly when Bart and Kevin then showed the audience how this motion could be seen as large mouth of a dinosaur, during their original children's song "I Wish I Were a Dinosaur."
Encouraging the parents to get up and dance with their children, the duo played "Blue Suede Shoes" and the wedding reception favorite "Celebration."
"Bart and Kevin were just great," Susan said. "They provide good family entertainment. It has been enjoyable that the library has provided the children with a variety of music throughout the summer."
In addition to the music, the duo also entertained the audience with comedy.
"How do you introduce a hamburger to someone," Dentino asked the audience. "Hello, I would like you to meat patty," he provided as the answer.
To end the show, they asked the audience to answer a trivia question about their final song, "I'm a Believer." The children recognized the song instantly from the hit movie "Shrek."
"The prize for answering the question correctly is something that they had in the ancient days of the 1960s," Dentino joked. "The prize is the satisfaction of knowing the answer. Isn't that an amazing prize?"
