Agee's mother, Linda Wilson, was involved with an altercation with Kathleen Andrews outside of the historic post office following the arraignment of Andrews' son, Joshua Nervina. Nervina, 17, was arraigned Monday in Auburn City Court for allegedly stabbing Agee.
Auburn Police Department officers responded to the call at approximately 10 a.m. and arrested Wilson, 45, of 18 Blauvelt Drive, Port Byron, on a misdemeanor charge of third-degree assault.
Wilson's son died from a single stab wound to the right side of his torso following a conflict at 19 Venice St. over a cell phone.
Auburn police said Agee and Nervina were part of a large group of people who gathered on the porch of 19 Venice St. around 11 p.m. Saturday. A dispute began when a cell phone was taken from Nervina, Det. Doug Parker said. Parker said it was not clear who had taken the cell phone from Nervina nor why.
A resident of the Venice Street duplex, who asked not to be identified, said that he had come downstairs when he heard the loud arguing and screaming coming from the porch.
He saw Agee and Nervina standing toe-to-toe, as Nervina demanded his cell phone be returned. Agee told Nervina he did not have the cell phone, according to the resident, but Nervina stabbed Agee with a black-handled steak knife. Agee then jumped over the side of the duplex's porch and ran. The resident gave a statement to police Sunday.
Police found Agee sitting on a step at the corner of Barber and Spring streets. Nervina left the scene and later surrendered at the police station.
"Within 10 minutes time, this was all escalated and was all over with," Parker said.
Agee's father, Oliver, arrived at the scene at 11:30 p.m., along with another son, Jamar Lenton. He found Anthony lying on the ground. Lenton tried to talk to Agee, but he just stared, his father said.
Oliver collapsed at the sight of his son with a blood-soaked towel at his side.
"I didn't have the strength of a baby," said Oliver, who remained at the scene until his son was lifted into an ambulance headed to Auburn Memorial Hospital.
Police took the cell phone into evidence Monday.
A friend of Agee's, Angel Bunce, said she turned it over to police Monday morning, though Auburn police would not confirm that.
Nervina's bail was set at $35,000 cash or $70,000 bond for the first-degree manslaughter charge.
