TROY - The Auburn Doubledays couldn't avoid a sweep at Tri City as they fell to the ValleyCats 6-5 Sunday night.
Trailing 6-0 going into the eighth inning, the Doubledays showed some signs of life.
Brian Pettway hit a two-run home run to get the Doubledays on the board.
Down to their last out in the ninth inning, Ryan Patterson hit a three-run long ball after Sean Shoffit and Manny Sena drew walks. Nate Thomas then flew out to end the game.
Auburn struggled again in the field, committing three errors - two by Sena.
Randy Dicken (3-1) took the loss after pitching 5 2-3 innings allowing five runs, three of which were earned.
Thomas Fairchild (1-2) earned the win pitching six shutout innings with three strikeouts.
