TROY - The Doubledays made six errors as the Tri City ValleyCats pummeled Auburn 15-8 Saturday night.
Auburn opened with a bang, scoring four times in the opening frame. After Jermy Acey singled and scored on a Ryan Patterson single, Nick Thomas hit a two-run triple and later scored.
But the ValleyCats struck right back. With the help of two Auburn errors, Tri City came up with three runs on a pair of hits in the bottom of the first. to make it 4-3.
Another error in the second inning allowed Tri City to tie it.
Pettway put the Doubledays back on top with an RBI triple. He scored on a single by Anthony Garibaldi to give Auburn a 6-4 lead.
Defensive miscues quickly surrendered that lead, too. Three runs scored on two errors to put Tri City up 7-6.
The ValleyCats piled on three more runs in the fifth inning and four in sixth off a grand slam by Matt Cunningham. Another run in the seventh marked Tri City's 15th.
Kristian Bell (1-4 ) pitched 4 1-3 innings and gave up 10 runs - just three earned for the loss. He had five strikeouts and one walk.
Reliever Eric Sheridan
(1-0) earned the win.
The loss was the second time in two nights Auburn lost an early lead at Tri City.
In Friday's game, The ValleyCats rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the bottom of the ninth to defeat the Doubledays 5-3.
After a pair of singles and a wild pitch by Gabriel Alfaro, Eric King singled to left field to bring both runners home.
King moved to second on another wild pitch. Thomas Manzella's single scored King to tie it up at 3-3. Patrick Sellers then hit a walk-off home run to left field.
