VIRGIL -- Dorothy E. Kimmich, age 101, formerly of 1867 Owego Hill Road, Virgil, died Wednesday, June 29, 2005, at the Cortland Care Center, Cortland. Mrs. Kimmich was born June 1, 1904 at Milwaukee, Wis., a daughter of the late Albert and Sophie Kissinger Mantey. Her husband, Ralph Kimmich, to whom she was married on June 25, 1925 in Little York, passed away Dec. 16, 1995.
They celebrated 70 years of marriage.
She was an active participant in many clubs and organizations, including the Virgil Historical Society, Virgil Home Bureau and served on the Cortland County Board of the Home Bureau. Mrs. Kimmich was a member of the Virgil Senior Citizens and assisted in the record keeping of the Virgil Rural Cemetery for many years while Mr. Kimmich was the caretaker and president of the association.
Survivors include her daughters, Rosalind J. Kimmich of Auburn, and Mary Lou (Keith) Hatfield of Scipio Center; three grandchildren, Joan (Patrick) Costello of Oxford, Bruce (Marcia) Hatfield of Scipio Center, and Ann (Daniel) Carey of Groton; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and cousins.
She was predeceased by two brothers, Paul and Robert Mantey; and a sister, Marian Welch.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 7, at the Perkins Funeral Home with the Rev. David H. Nicholls of the Dryden United Methodist Church officiating.
Burial will follow in Virgil Rural Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, at the funeral home, 55 W. Main St., Dryden.
