LOCKE - Edgar S. Gray, 80, of 1018 Main St., Locke, died Monday, June 27, 2005, at the Groton Nursing Facility, after an extended illness.
Mr. Gray was born Jan. 29, 1925, in North Cohocton, a son of the late Clair and Dorothea (Jewell) Gray. Following graduation from North Cohocton High School, he attended Alfred University and later farmed in the Cohocton area. Edgar moved to Locke in 1966, and was employed as an area milk inspector for the Dairylea Co-op in Syracuse, retiring as a supervisor after 24 years of employment. Edgar also had been a bus driver for the Moravia Central School District for a number of years.
Following his retirement, he and his wife, Elaine, wintered in Haines City, Fla., for a number of cold winters afterward. Edgar was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of the North Cohocton VFW.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Elaine (Werth) Gray, at home; his sons, Ralph (Lorraine) of Locke, and Ronnie (Diane) of Dayton, Ohio; his daughter, Suzanne (Patrick) O'Donnell of Locke; three grandchildren, Matthew Gray of Locke, Renee O'Donnell of Locke, and Tiffany York of Ohio; two great-grandsons, James York III and Griffith York; two brothers, Robert of Waterloo and Richard of Penn Yan; two sisters, Beverley Sick of Georgia and Mary Dye of Florida; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brothers, Charles, Melvin and Carl; and sister, Jean King.
Funeral services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, June 30, at the Shurtleff Funeral Home, 103 Lincoln Ave., Groton, with the Rev. David Hays officiating. Friends may call from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, at the funeral home, prior to services. Interment, with military honors, will be held 1 p.m. Friday, July 1, in Lakeside Cemetery, Wayland.
