Visitors Bureau board.
Elected directors must live in Cayuga County, or be employed in a business or other affiliated organization, engaged in or with a background in tourism promotion in and around Cayuga County.
The mission of the Cayuga County Convention and Visitors Bureau is to promote the tourism and convention industry of Cayuga County, to increase visitors to the county and thereby stimulate economic growth.
Navy captain receives honor
U.S. Navy Capt. Mitchell L. Robinson recently received the Defense Meritorious Service Medal for his service as Executive Officer and Acting Commanding Officer of the U.S. Forces Japan Naval Reserve Unit.
The citation recognized Robinson for his contributions to the unit's support to U.S. Forces Japan during wartime operations as well as major joint and combined training exercises.
Robinson was specifically commended for his service as the unit's Acting Commanding Officer from February - September 2002. While in Japan, Robinson served as assistant to the U.S. Forces Japan Director of Logistics.
A 1970 graduate of Moravia Central School, Robinson is the son of Dorothy Robinson of Moravia and the late Roland Robinson. He resides in New London, Conn. with his wife, the Rev. Mary Robinson.

program earns grant
The Cayuga/Cortland Workforce Development Board received $208,100 in state funding for its Summer Youth Employment Program for 2005.
Funding for the program, which employs approximately 15,000 youth across New York state, comes through the Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program and has been allocated to counties through the state Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance.
Programs must include an assessment of the employment related needs of each youth, placement in an appropriate job setting and ongoing monitoring, and development of educational opportunities related to career and higher education exploration as well as workplace readiness.
Wanted Auburnian arrested for burglary
An Auburn man wanted on an Auburn Police Department warrant for a 2004 burglary was arrested Wednesday.
Floyd L. Tillman, 49, of 37 Sheridan St., was arrested when Officer Michael Warter spotted him Wednesday, police said.
Tillman is accused of an Oct. 29 burglary in which residents heard a voice inside their home when they returned from being away. Tillman then was identified by the residents as being the culprit, police said.
The residents argued with Tillman over why he was in the home, and some VHS movies were found to have been stolen from the residence, police said.
Busy May for city fire department
The Auburn Fire Department reported it responded to a total of 18 fires in May, 10 involving burning structures.
The department also responded to 244 rescue and emergency medical calls, 16 hazardous condition calls, 20 service calls and 14 good intent calls. A total of 14 false alarms were received, with three listed as malfunctions and six as unintentional.
