SYRACUSE - The Syracuse Orange have a new football coach and soon will have a new artificial field inside the Carrier Dome.
Why stop there?

School officials Wednesday unveiled new uniforms, which the Orange will be wearing when they host West Virginia on Sept. 4. The uniforms will have stripes on the shoulders, which are representative of the uniforms that Jim Brown and Ernie Davis wore nearly a half-century ago. Four color combinations will be available - orange pants with a white jersey, orange pants with a blue jersey, white pants with a white jersey, and white pants with a blue jersey.

"These uniforms respect the past and represent the future," head coach Greg Robinson said. "Respecting the tradition of this university in how we appear is important. At the same time we must represent the future in our own way. These uniforms are not identical to 1959, but they have similar characteristics. They have a new millennium look to them."

Players also will wear black shoes and helmets featuring numbers on the side and a blue stripe down the middle.
