Bluegrass and brush cuts at pavilion

A "Cool Summer Cuts" clip-athon is being held to benefit Michael Morrissey from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Robin's Hair Care at 37 Market St. in Auburn.
Morrissey, 5, lost his mother, Nora, to cancer on May 4.

A $10 minimum contribution is being requested. There will be raffles, a 50/50 drawing along with local hair stylists and manicurists.

Following the clip-athon, the city of Auburn Parks and Recreation Department will present a free Market Street Bluegrass Festival from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Market Street Pavilion. Live entertainment will be provided by The Sunnyside String Band, McCarthy-Paisley Duo and Merry Mischief, with sound provided by Pratt Audio.

Storyteller to talk about Tubman

A professional storyteller will bring to life the story of Harriet Tubman during a program to be held at a conference center in Painted Post.

Storyteller Almeta Whitis will travel from her home in Arizona to show Tubman's trips south to rescue slaves. The program, including a dinner, will be held at 6 p.m. Sunday, June 12, at Watson Homestead, located between Corning and Bath in Steuben County.

Tubman, along with five other upstate New York women, will be honored during a program at the Homestead June 12-17.

For reservations for the event, call the Homestead at (607) 962-0541, or e-mail whomestead@stny.rr.com. Tickets for the dinner and the portrayal of Tubman are $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $15 for students. The deadline for reservations is Monday, June 6.
