AUBURN - Samuel Barr Jr., 72, of Mahaney Ave., Auburn, died Saturday, May 28, 2005, at University Hospital, Syracuse.
Mr. Barr was born in Florence, S.C., the son of the late Sam and Mattie Wright Barr Sr., and had resided in Auburn for most of his life. He was employed at New Process Gear of Syracuse for 37 years, retiring on Dec. 31, 1995. In addition, he was a member of the Cayuga County Men and Women's Health Partnership, and a member, trustee and treasurer of the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church.

Surviving is his wife, Arcola Brown Barr of Auburn; one son, Norman J. Barr of Auburn; two daughters, Powell Olivia Mejias of Syracuse, and Shawnte Ressie Barr of Auburn; four sisters, Daisy M. Barr and her husband, Lang, of Auburn, Mattie Brown and her husband, Joe Nathan, of Florence, S.C.., Rolean Brown and her husband, Fred, of Florence, S.C., and Olivia Jackson of Pamplico, S.C.; four brothers, John Barr of Auburn, Essom Barr of Auburn, Jacob Barr and his wife, Veronica, of Auburn, and Willie Barr and his wife, Linda, of Auburn; sisters-in-law, Marlene McKinley of Rochester and Margaret Barr of Florence, S.C.; brothers-in-law, Nolan Moore of Auburn and Charles White of Kentucky; stepmother, Esther Barr of Florence, S.C.; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; Godsons, Terrance McCutchen of Rochester and Robert Love III of Newport News, Va.; host of nieces, nephews and friends; and a special niece, Janet James of Warner Robins, Ga.

Mr. Barr was predeceased by his brother, James Barr, in 1971; a sister-in-law, Virginia Flowers, who died several years ago; and a sister-in-law, Lila Barr.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, June 4, at the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church, with the Rev. Robert E. Wilson officiating. Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, at the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church, 101 Fitch Ave., Auburn. Interment will be in Fort Hill Cemetery, Auburn.

Expressions of sympathy may be made to the memorial fund of the Roosevelt Memorial Baptist Church, 101 Fitch Ave., Auburn, in memory of Mr. Barr.

The Brew Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
