Statement about gun allowed at trial
A statement a Geneva man allegedly made to an Auburn police officer in regard to a .45 caliber semiautomatic handgun he is accused of aiming at another officer will be allowed into his trial scheduled for next week.
Cayuga County Judge Peter Corning decided Tuesday during a Huntley hearing for Jason Abron, 30, that Chief Assistant District Attorney Jon Budelmann can introduce the assertion that Abron - while he was in the city's lockup following his arrest - allegedly asked an officer if the gun had been found.
Abron's attorney Michael Bass said the admission was not inconsistent with the defense he will be presenting for his client.
Abron faces six felony counts and three misdemeanor charges in the trial scheduled to begin Monday, June 6.
Following a call reporting a road rage incident at Wall and Washington streets Oct. 24, Abron allegedly left his vehicle when it was pulled over by police, pulled the loaded automatic and pointed it at a city police officer before tossing the weapon away during a foot chase, police said.
