The Auburn Education Foundation has summer homework.
If the foundation is able to raise $20,000, it will be matched by Donald James Trufant, of Cape Charles, Va.

Trufant's matching grant award will be held in escrow for four months and will be released to the foundation if it is able to generate $20,000 in that time. If it succeeds, Trufant said he will contribute an additional $5,000.

"I have been very fortunate in life, and I attribute my success to the splendid education and upbringing in the schools in Cayuga County," Trufant said in a news release.

"By this challenge and incentive grant to the foundation, I wish to express my thanks and encourage other contributions for the welfare of our young children."

The Auburn Education Foundation is a not-for-profit organization providing incentive programs to extend learning opportunities for students in the Auburn Enlarged City School District.

The campaign challenge will run from today until Sept. 30. Foundation representatives will be at the Auburn High School graduation on June 24, and will visit reunions throughout the summer.

Anyone wishing to support the foundation can mail a donation payable to the Auburn Education Foundation, P.O. Box 592, Auburn, NY 13021.

"On behalf of the AEF, I am very pleased and excited to accept this challenge from Mr. Trufant," said AEF consultant Leslie Leary. "To be the recipient of such a generous gift from someone who obviously has fond ties to Cayuga County is very heartwarming."
