MIAMI - Pedro Martinez pitched five-hit ball for eight dominant innings and struck out 10, and Cliff Floyd had a run-scoring double to help the New York Mets beat the Florida Marlins 1-0 on Friday.
Martinez (5-1) reached double-digit strikeouts for the third time in 10 starts this season and walked none. He lasted more than seven innings for the second time with New York - he pitched a complete game April 10 at Atlanta.

Martinez now has 102 double-digit strikeout games. He ranks fourth in major league history behind Nolan Ryan (215), Randy Johnson (204) and Roger Clemens (109).

Braden Looper pitched a perfect the ninth for his 11th save, completing the Mets' fourth shutout. It was New York's second 1-0 win this season, having beaten Houston in 11 innings on April 13.

Brian Moehler (2-2) nearly matched Martinez for eight innings. He retired his first 11 batters before Mike Cameron lined a two-out double to left in the fourth. Floyd followed by pulling a 1-0 pitch down the right-field line for an RBI double.

Moehler gave up four hits and was in trouble in just one other inning, the seventh, when Cameron doubled leading off and advanced to third on Floyd's grounder. He was stranded after Mike Piazza grounded to third and David Wright flied out to right.

Moehler struck out six without walking a batter as the Marlins equaled a season high with their third consecutive loss. Florida was swept May 13-15 at San Diego.

Florida's best chance to score was in the seventh. Carlos Delgado led off with a double down the right-field line. He took third on Miguel Cabrera's fly out to right but was stranded when Juan Encarnacion and Mike Lowell both struck out.

Encarnacion was ejected by home plate umpire Mark Wegner walking back to the Marlins dugout after the called third strike.

In the fifth, Florida's Mike Lowell led off by singling hard down the left-field line but was thrown out trying to stretch the hit into a double. Floyd fielded the ball cleanly and made a strong threw to second baseman Miguel Cairo, who applied the tag.

Notes: The Marlins are scheduled to face left-handed starters in five of their next six games. Florida is 7-4 against lefty starters. ... Florida SS Alex Gonzalez had an 11-game hitting streak snapped. ... Cameron is hitting .563 (9-for-16) on the road trip. ... New York is 5-2 vs. Florida this season.
