Blue Jays call up former D-day Hill

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed 3B Corey Koskie on the 15-day disabled list with a fractured right thumb and have purchased the contract of infielder Aaron Hill from the Syracuse SkyChiefs of the International League.
Hill played for the Auburn Doubledays in 2003.

Koskie injured his thumb while sliding into second base Thursday in Minnesota.

Hill, 23, is batting .301 in 38 games with five home runs and 18 RBI. The native of Visalia, Calif. was Toronto's first round selection in the 2003 first-year player draft, 13th overall.

J-E's Berwind to play at U. Rochester

Former Jordan-Elbridge Eagle Tim Berwind will attend the University of Rochester this fall 2005 and play football for the Yellowjackets.

Berwind graduated from Bridgton Academy Post Graduate Prep School and is a 2004 graduate of Jordan Elbridge high school.

While with the Eagles, Berwind was a first-team all-league selection as an inside linebacker during both his junior and senior years.

 

Heffernan to play hoops at Erskine

Onondaga Community College men's basketball player Tom Heffernan (Jordan-Elbridge) has signed a national letter of intent to accept an athletic scholarship and play at Erskine College, a NCAA, Division II school in Due West, S.C. 

Heffernan, one of Onondaga's co-captains, led the Lazers to 38 wins and two post-season appearances the past two seasons. 

He ranked fourth nationally in both assists, with 7.8 per game, and free-throw percentage (85.4). He led Region III in free-throw percentage, and finished second in assists. 

His career marks of 465 assists and an 83 percent free throw percentage rank second and first respectively all-time at Onondaga. 

Heffernan also averaged 6.2 points and 2.4 rebounds per game. 

Heffernan was an honorable mention All-Conference selection and was selected to play in the Region III Senior All-Star Game.

Cayuga CC to host girls lacrosse camp

The Cayuga CC girls lacrosse summer camp will run from June 27 to July 1. The next registration is Sunday, June 12 from 12-2 p.m.

The camp is being sponsored by DeBeers and Harrow Lacrosse, and all participants will receive a scrimmage shirt and water bottle.

In addition, those campers without lacrosse gear may contact coach Tyler Renaud or coach Amy Spin for information on how to order beginner equipment from either sponsor, at a reduced cost.

Registrations will be taken right up until the first day of camp.

Renaud and Spin will e-mail, mail or fax registration forms to any interested camper and her parents who cannot register in person.

American Legion looking for umps

The American Legion youth baseball/softball league is looking for umpires.

You must be at least 14 and go to a mandatory clinic. Games are Monday-Friday and occasionally Saturdays, in May and June.
