American Legion needs umpires

The American Legion youth baseball/softball league is looking for umpires. You must be at least 14 and go to a mandatory clinic. Games are Monday-Friday and occasionally Saturdays, in May and June.

Soap Box signups being accepted

Applications are now being accepted for the 2005 NUCOR Central New York All-American Soap Box Derby to be held May 28 at Hoopes Park Hill. The race is open to children ages 8-17.

Races will be held in three different divisions: stock, superstock and the superkids division for disabled racers.

Old Timer's League starting

The Earl Hayward Old Timer's League plays Tuesday mornings at Auburn Golf and Country Club. The format is nine hole captain and crew with new teams made up each week. Starting date is May 17.

Women's hoop league tipping off

The Auburn YMCA is now accepting rosters for an eight-week women's basketball league to be played on Thursday evenings starting May 26.

Auburn freshmen rout Fowler

AUBURN - Nick Rusinko hit two home runs and pitchers Anthony Siracusa, Noah Donch and Chris Gomez combined to strike out 10 and allow three hits as the Auburn freshman baseball team defeated Fowler 15-2 on Saturday.

Alex Gatewood hit a home run and a triple for the Maroons, while Gomez added a homer and two doubles and Siracusa had three hits.

Bob Buckley and Nick Ventura had two hits apiece for Auburn.

Balanced Maroons beat Central Square

Corey Heller, Mike Miskell, Chris Clifford and Ryan Button all scored two goals as the Auburn freshman boys lacrosse team defeated Central Square 11-3 on Friday.

Also scoring for Auburn were Chris Murdoch, Javon Tillman and Grant Krystofic.

Ryan Button had two assists, while Justin Persaile and Brendan O'Connor also had assists. Kevin Dyer played very well in net.

Auburn (4-2) plays at West Genesee on Friday.

Little Giants top Auburn Police

AUBURN - Jason Parker hit a home run and Sammy Kayn and Biran Roe each had three hits as the Little Giants downed the Auburn Police Department 14-7 in the Auburn Little League on Friday.

Also getting multiple hits for the Little Giants were Bobby Kick, Nick Herlihy and Tony Moore.

Kayn and Vince Giannetino shared mound duties.

For the Auburn Police Department, Nick Calarco and Zach Cousineau each collected three hits. Rocco Defranco, Matt Covich and Nathanial Donch pitched.
