Skaneateles garden tours planned

The Skaneateles Garden Club has planned an extensive garden tour of the community's most notable gardenscapes next month.

The tour, to be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, June 10 and Saturday, June 11, is one of the largest the club has put on in a decade. It will feature everything from cottage-style gardens to homes with more than 20 acres of landscaped property.

A special garden luncheon is also planned on both days. Combination tour/luncheon tickets must be bought in advance for $35 by May 25, by forwarding reservations to Skaneateles Garden Club Tour, P.O. Box 96, Skaneateles, NY 13152, and include a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Tour only tickets can purchased in advance by May 25 for $18. Tickets will also be sold the days of the tour for $20 at the First Presbyterian Church, 97 E. Genesee St., Skaneateles.

The tour proceeds benefit the club's civic projects.

First downtown mural installed

The Downtown Auburn Business Improvement District kicks off its Open Air Art Program Sunday to raise funds to install a building wrap on the north side of Nash's Art Supply store, 12 State St., Auburn.

The event will be held from noon to 7 p.m. on State Street. Admission is $3, while children 5 and under are free.

Admission fees and proceeds from a raffle, among other activities, will be used to cover installation and production expenses for the building wrap.

Peter Maciulewicz, owner of Mack Studios in Auburn, has donated one of his works of art, "Field of Hope," which depicts a field of irises. It will be the first mural installation.

Through the Open Air Art Program, BID hopes to install at least one mural a year.
