Wendy's Restaurant on Grant Avenue has placed advertisements seeking to hire managers for its Auburn location, despite an ongoing insurance dispute over the Feb. 18 fire that shuttered the restaurant temporarily.
An investigation into the responsibility for the cause of the fire is still under way by insurance companies representing the restaurant and Syracuse electrical company Kay-R Electric. Kay-R electricians were installing exterior security lights at the time the fire started.
The Wendy's restaurant will reopen at its same location, but a date for the reopening has not been set, Wendy's Auburn restaurant operator Anne Williams said. No applications have been submitted yet to the Auburn Code Enforcement Office to reopen Wendy's.
Wendy's placed an ad with The Citizen from April 27 to May 1 seeking managers for a "new store opening" in Auburn.
Williams said the franchise placed the advertisement "to see what's out there" in terms of potential employees and because it takes 10 to 12 weeks to train managers.
Williams would not comment if the insurance dispute was affecting the restaurant's reopening.
Kay-R vice president Philip O'Connor said the insurance investigation has not concluded yet, but said he couldn't comment further.
The Auburn Fire Department said in February the fire was caused by an accidental electrical short-out of cables installed by Kay-R electricians. The cables were installed as part of the installation of large, exterior globe lights to light up Wendy's parking lot at night.
Lead AFD investigator Michael Parker said the electric short caused the cables to arc in a room full of paper goods, which was out of sight from both Kay-R and Wendy's employees.
Kay-R contends a final cause for the fire can't be determined until the insurance investigation is complete.
No one was injured in the fire, but the restaurant was severely damaged by smoke, and the steel roof joists at the back third of the restaurant twisted under fire heat of at least 600 degrees.
