District to vote on running planetarium
The Southern Cayuga Central School District's Board of Education will vote on whether to take over operation of the planetarium program now run by the Cayuga-Onondaga BOCES.
The board's regular meeting starts at 6:30 tonight, with a proposed executive session to discuss a specific personnel matter. The board anticipates the public portion of the meeting beginning at 7:30 p.m in the planetarium classroom.
According to the board's agenda, the district could operate the planetarium program through grant funding and a fee-for-service program.
ARC summer camp will open July 11
Seneca Cayuga ARC is now accepting applications for summer day camp at Camp Columbus on Owasco Lake in Auburn.
The agency will offer five week-long sessions for children and adults with disabilities beginning the week of July 11 and running through Aug 12. The last week is for children with special needs.
Each session will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday. The cost is $100 per camper, but scholarships and financial assistance may be available.
Camp activities will include waterfront swimming with certified instructor and lifeguards, field sports, story and drama, dance and music, aerobics, arts and crafts and fishing, with special events each Friday. A registered nurse is on duty throughout the season; transportation may also be available.

SADD to sponsor two teen events
A pair of events planned later this week and next week at Auburn High School are aimed at stopping drinking and driving in the community.
The Auburn SADD chapter on Saturday will host a band show, with part of the proceeds going to the United Way. The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at the high school gymnasium and will feature music, food, prizes and fun. Admission is $8.
SADD has also organized a program on May 11 called "Not One Of Ours." It will feature a real-life look at what can happen when teens drink and drive or just drive recklessly.
That event, which starts at 6 p.m. at the high school, is appropriate for both students and their parents.
Volunteers needed for ag museum
The Ward W. O'Hara Agricultural Museum at Emerson Park is seeking volunteers to help finish the addition under construction.
The museum is adding about 1,500 square feet for the upcoming season.
People with carpentry or painting skills are needed to finish the interior of the new structure. The museum's board of commissioners hopes to have the project completed in time for a May 16 opening.
Those who are interested in the volunteer work should call George R. Komer, museum director, at 497-1824.
Scipio residents to discuss wind turbines
The town of Scipio is looking to adopt a new law that would regulate the use of small wind turbines.
A public hearing on a proposed zoning change has been scheduled for Wednesday in front of the Scipio Town Board. The meeting will be held at 7:15 p.m. at the town hall, and interested parties may speak on the issue.
Copies of the proposed law are available for inspection at the town hall, located on Route 34 in the town of Scipio.
