Blue Devils rally against Wolves

MORAVIA - Angela Potter drove in Kathleen Youngs for the winning run to give the Moravia softball team an eight-inning win over Union Springs, 4-3 Wednesday.
"It was a well-played game on both sides," said Moravia coach Terry Palmer. "Abby Cook dominated with 10 Ks, but we mustered up six hits. We got the key hits we needed."

Jen Guido got the win on the mound, striking out five with one walk and seven hits.

Potter led the Blue Devils at the plate with three hits and two RBIs.

Cook absorbed the loss for the Wolves, fanning 10, walking one and scattering six hits. She also had two hits at the plate. Jessica Kneaskern added a double.

Moravia (4-4, 8-5) plays at Groton on Friday.

Onondaga 5, Port Byron 3

PORT BYRON - Courtney Dare had three hits and one double and Stacey Schreiner added three hits to lead the Panthers.

Kelly McDonald and Carolynn Cioffa each had two hits. Alison Short had two RBIs. Beth Cereo fanned nine and allowed 10 hits on the mound.

Port Byron (4-3) plays at Hannibal on Monday.

Marathon 7, Southern Cayuga 4

POPLAR RIDGE - Nicole Reed had two hits to lead the Chiefs. Overall the Chiefs stranded 13 runners.

Southern Cayuga (6-4) plays at Lansing on Friday.

East Syracuse-Minoa 7, Auburn 5

AUBURN - Trailing 5-0, the Maroons rallied and had the tying run on second base before losing to the state-ranked Spartans.

Amanda Daum led the Maroons with two hits, one double and three RBIs. Michelle Grassi had two hits. Gabe Palmieri, Lee Kehoe, Kelley Horbal, Jessica Garrett and Kelly Blumrick each had one hit.

Auburn (2-7) plays at Corcoran today.

Jordan-Elbridge 9, Marcellus 1

MARCELLUS - Colleen Ryan led the 14th-ranked Eagles with eight strikeouts, three walks, two hits and one run.

Rachel Graf had two hits and three stolen bases. Jessica Snyder had a double and two RBIs. Ryan had two hits, a double and an RBI. Ellen Dungy had a triple and two RBIs and Colleen Manley had one hit and one RBI.

Jordan-Elbridge plays Friday at Skaneateles.

Cazenovia 12, Skaneateles 9

SKANEATELES - Amanda Hamilton led the Lakers with three hits and one RBI.

Kara Buehler had a home run, Caitlyn Minturn added a double and Andrea Edmunds had one RBI. Alyssa Turose had four strikeouts and one walk.

Skaneateles (0-7) plays Westhill today.

Lacrosse

Auburn 23, New Hartford 11

NEW HARTFORD - Shannon Lattimore had five goals and four assists to pace the Maroons to their first win of the season.

Carley Reynolds had four goals and three assists and Flannery Nangle added six goals. Caitlin Leone and Bridgette Cool (one assist) each scored two goals.

Sarah May (one assist), Leah Downing (two assists) and Kaitlyn Liccion each scored one goal. Andrea Musso, Rosie Scheibel and Ashley Viscardi each had one assist. Jolynn Brewer had six saves.

Auburn (1-10) plays at Baldwinsville on Friday.

TRACK AND FIELD

Weedsport 90, Pulaski 51

WEEDSPORT - Allison Beardsley won the 100m (13.7), the 200m (29.4), the triple jump (30-4) and was a part of the 4x100 relay (57.3) which included Kim Gilfus, Chelsea Paquett and Maria Barbaglia. Gilfus won the 100 hurdles (18.3) and the 400 hurdles (1:20.4).

Sara Wignall won the 400m (65.8) and the long jump (13-7.6) and was a part of the 4x800m relay (10:39) which included Chelsea Gibson, Laura Ryan and Amanda Giancrelli.

Gibson won the 1500m (5:36), Sara Lewis won the shot put (28-9.6), Barbaglia won the discus (84-4) and Allison Earl won the pole vault (6-0).

Laura Ryan, Wignall, Giancrelli and Earl won the 4x400m relay (4:42.5).

Weedsport (5-0) runs at APW on Wednesday.

Hannibal 89, Port Byron 44

Onondaga 113, Port Byron 16

PORT BYRON - Katie Jakaub won three events to pace the Panthers.

Jakaub won the 800 (2:52), 1500 (6:29) and the long jump (13-10).

Randi Lee Wilson captured the 3000 in 14:51. Trish Porten won the 100 hurdles in 20.1 and Kassandra Gonzales won the 100 in 14.4.

Port Byron (1-5) travels to Pulaski on Wednesday.
